The interactive examples use simulated data. Enable JavaScript to practise these lessons.
Check Ethernet, try the M4 hotspot, connect Wi-Fi and test the internet path. These are the M4’s network connections, separate from its sensor radio. All changes here affect only the example. Use Windows to switch chapters or return Home; the back arrow returns from an interface to the network overview.
Open eth0, the Ethernet interface. Find Current IPv4 under Interface Status. Dynamic addressing (DHCP) means your network supplies the address automatically. Use the back arrow to return to the network overview, where Kernel Routing Table shows the gateway.
The M4 has one Wi-Fi radio. It can connect to another Wi-Fi network or broadcast its own hotspot, but not both at once. The Wi-Fi connection takes priority, even in Always mode. Try the hotspot before connecting Wi-Fi: choose Always and Save, learn how to open the dashboard through the hotspot, then restore Auto and Save.
Open Wi-Fi and scan for Plant maintenance. Select it and review the prefilled practice passphrase. Choose Next, then select Enabled for Auto-connect. Leave IPv4 on DHCP and Save. Wait for Wireless Status to show Connected and an address before testing the internet path.
Wi-Fi is connected with Auto-connect enabled. Open Details in Kernel Routing Table and test the prepared IT target. In this example, the active route uses Ethernet (eth0). Read the result, then close Details to finish.
Optional lesson. Enable Hamachi, join the example Hamachi network, and practise approval, remote access and leaving. All VPN settings and responses are simulated in your browser; no account or installation is needed for this exercise.
This example connects the M4 and your computer through a shared WireGuard VPN server. Import the M4’s prepared configuration, find its dashboard address, check the connection to the server, then stop and remove the tunnel. All connections are simulated.
Set up the router login used by the M4’s LTE watchdog. Review the gateway requirements, save the prepared credentials, test the login and clear the stored password. The router and all responses are simulated in your browser.
Check network time and update the hardware clock. All clock settings and server replies are simulated.
